Perfect Benne Wafers

I grew up in South Carolina and My Grandma always made Benne Wafers. I have tried to bake them myself using her recipe but I cannot seem to get the right texture. Mine always turn out chewy. These are light and crispy like they're supposed to be.

OMG, I grew up in Savannah and have lived in Upstate NY since 1988. A patient brought these to us as a gift! Yum, I'm not going to lie I think I ate a bag all by myself. The best cookies and amazing childhood memories.

These are one of my favorites- sooo good sweet but salty and nutty - very light and crispy - soooo goooood ! This is a must have in my bag every time I go to byrds - I have to put myself on a once a month rule haha if not I would be at their store every week. Xoxoxoxoxo

Oh my gosh. Never had these before. Was at the store in Savannah and grabbed the usual chocolate chip and was told it was better deal to by one more. So I turned around and grabbed a benne cookie package. Wow they are delicious!!!!'

My all time favorite cookie! Was more than disappointed to find NO Benne Wafers in Savannah! Was told that they weren't your best seller. Most people don't know what a Benne Wafer is, so your stores should be opening their eyes.... Mouths! I'm glad I can at least order online, but hope Benne Wafers are a come back. What a shame such a traditional cookie would cease to exist.

I grew up in the South but I'd never heard of benne seeds until I moved to Savannah and tried Byrd's Benne cookies. They are fabulous. Just the right amount of everything. Best cookies I've ever had!!!
